WYKE Wanderers bowed out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup following a 2-0 loss at Boroughbridge.

Wanderers, who were under-strength, were caught cold when Boroughbridge took an early lead and they found themselves two goals behind before half-time.

Although the visitors rallied in the second period, they could not engineer a breakthrough.

Ten-man Baildon Trinity Athletic kept the flag flying for the West Yorkshire League's Bradford area clubs with a 2-0 home victory over a young Leeds City Old Boys' Thirds team in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy third round.

The visitors had rattled the bar with a 25-yard free-kick 15 minutes in and had a man advantage ten minutes later when Ben Craven was dismissed for his reaction to a challenge.

Ironically, this gave Trinity a boost and they took the lead ten minutes before the interval via a Darren Rands shot from outside the area after good hold-up play by striker Lee Mathers.

Baildon's defence then held firm and their greater possession and experience told in the second half, with substitutes Steve Sample and Sean McVey almost doubling the lead.

Yet it was Mathers, who had put in a big shift, who was rewarded with their second goal five minutes from time, converting a delightful whipped ball into the area to seal a place in the last 32 next month.

Glyn Hirst, Liam Lambert, Jack Webster, Dan Laban and Adam Sharkey were on target for Field Reserves in their 5-3 victory against Hunslet Club Reserves.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves could not join them in the fourth round, losing 6-1 against Carlton Athletic Reserves.

Due to sickness, Wyke fielded a weakened team and were 2-0 down by half-time. They showed some signs that they could get back into the match in the second half but Athletic tripled their advantage before Ben Arundel netted a consolation goal.
