ROHAN Smith will not be put off his first role as head coach by the latest financial turmoil affecting the Bulls.

The Australian remains an optimistic force as the club tackle their third spell in administration in the space of five years.

Smith signed a contract until 2019 when he succeeded Jimmy Lowes at the Odsal helm in May and he will not let the off-field issues – and expected points deduction – affect the way he tackles the senior role.

He said: "That's part of the job as a coach. It doesn't matter what sport or competition you're in, you're always going to be faced with some adversity.

"That's what you sign up for. You don't know what the next hurdle is going to be and it's about adapting and getting on with the job.

"There are obviously people around this club who've been through this before. I've been in a club back home that had some financial troubles as well. The NRL had to intervene there and help out.

"To me, it's just about doing what our job is. That's coming to work every day and preparing for the season ahead – the rest of it is someone else's job."

Smith and his squad are into their fourth week of pre-season preparation as the Bulls gear up for a third season below Super League.

He has been very pleased with how the players are reacting to a demanding schedule and said: "They've got to know each other quite well.

"They've spent a lot of time together – training has been very long on some days. But they are enjoying it and the quality of training so far has been of a very high standard."
