GUISELEY remain rooted to the foot of table in the National League as Barrow last night extended their season long unbeaten home run with a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Lions.

The Bluebirds climbed one place to fourth and are now just six points off leaders Forest Green Rovers with a game in hand on the Gloucester outfit.

The home side had to be patient against Adam Lockwood’s Lions as there was a tight opening to the game.

However, once Jordan Williams had broken the deadlock with a goal of the season contender that left Guiseley keeper Dan Atkinson flat-footed, Barrow scored again to take a two-goal lead into the break.

Williams netted his thunderbolt in the 41st minute and Byron Harrison headed in a second for the Bluebirds.

Harrison wrapped up the scoring soon after the hour mark from the penalty spot after Marcus Williams had fouled the home side’s midfielder Ryan Yates in the area.

Guiseley came close to notching when Jake Cassidy hit a post from a tight angle minutes before Barrow sent on former Bantams’ striker Ross Hannah from the bench.

Hannah went close twice in the closing minutes but there was a disappointing end to the game for the home side as keeper Joel Dixon was stretchered off before the five minutes of stoppage time began.

The Bluebirds had used all three of their substitutes by then so outfield player Liam Hughes donned the gloves.

Farsley Celtic displaced Glossop North End to climb to second in the Evo-Stik League Division One North last night with a 2-0 win at the Hillmen’s Surrey Street ground.

The match survived a pitch inspection but it was the visitors who profited as two first half goals proved to be decisive. James Walshaw lashed the Celts in front before Jordan Deacey slotted in from close range following a good ball into the area.

The home side put Farsley under some pressure in the second half but the visitors’ defence held firm with skipper Paddy Miller clearing one good effort off the line.

Silsden’s trip to newcomers Charnock Richard in Division One of the Hallmark Security League was washed out as the pitch at the Lancashire club’s Mossie Park was waterlogged.

Tonight sees two of the area’s top tier representatives in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League in action as Albion Sports host Harrogate Railway Athletic, while Liversedge travel to Bottesford Town.
