BRADFORD Dragons notched their third ton in as many games as they beat Westminster Warriors 121-93 in Division One of the English Basketball League.

The two teams had been locked in a battle against relegation last season, with both narrowly missing the drop but Westminster nudging the Dragons down into 12th position on points difference on the final day.

Bradford were without forward Florent Levazeux, who had taken an elbow to the nose during a full-on training session earlier in the week, causing the 6ft 7in Frenchman to sit this game out.

The hosts started at a blistering pace, rocketing into a ten-point lead (32-22) at the end of the opening quarter and causing no end of problems for their guests.

There was no let-up for the Warriors and, with just two minutes of the second period played, their coach was forced into calling a time-out following a Jason Swaine three-pointer which extended the Dragons' lead to 20 points at 44-24.

But despite this intervention, the gap between the two teams was still 17 points as they left the court at half-time with the Dragons leading 59-42.

In the third quarter, so often Bradford's downfall last season, they showed no signs of slowing down and put in their highest-scoring period of the game to extend the lead to 25 points (93-68).

With the game all but sewn up, Bradford could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the gas but powered on and currently boast the most potent offensive record in the division, averaging over 100 points per game.

Marcus Gooding and Rihards Sulcs shared the plaudits as the Dragons' top scorers with 28 points apiece, ably assisted by Ricky Fetske on 17 – including a couple of showpiece dunks.

Dragons head coach Chris Mellor said: "We moved the ball very well again and couldn't have played much better offensively.

"Defensively we weren't great, and the game was too free-flowing for my liking, but it's a win and sets us up nicely for a big double-header this weekend."

Bradford face another league and cup double as Worthing Thunder visit the Dragons' Den on Saturday (6.15pm) followed by another home tie against Lancashire Spinners – who have already visited the Den on two occasions in the opening weeks of the season – this time in the National Cup fourth round on Sunday (4.15pm).

The Dragons under-18s defeated Killamarsh Derbyshire Arrows 69-63 as part of a double-header that also saw the under-14s beat Cheshire Phoenix Juniors II 90-31.

The under-16s had beaten Doncaster Dunum Eagles 95-65 the previous day, while the under-14s also took the home win (102-62) against Cheshire Wire White to make it a 100 per cent winning weekend for Bradford.

* The Dragons board have announced that Deborah Krajniewski has resigned as chairwoman for personal reasons. She will continue in her other role as Division One team manager, with club secretary Steve Valentine stepping up as acting chair to the end of the season.
