MARFLITT Cup holders Farsley Celtic Juniors beat Drighlington 4-2 in the first round of this season's Yorkshire Amateur League knockout competition.

Drig led through Shane Sowden but Farsley equalised before Johnny Kitchen's free-kick restored the advantage.

Farsley then seized control after the break with goals from Ryan Collett, Pat Docherty and Said Osman.

Farsley Celtic Reserves lost 3-2 at home to Stanningley OB, while Idle won 4-2 at a Leeds Medics & Dentists IV in the first round of the Hancock Cup.

In the Hodgson Cup first round, St Bede's Reserves won 6-4 at Shire Academics IV.

The impressive Saints onslaught was led by a Karl Hall treble, a goal for Asif Khan and a double by substitute Nathan Priestley.

In the Premier Division, Grangefield OB were thumped 6-1 by unbeaten Leeds Medics after taking an early lead. Farnley Sports and Trinity OB drew 2-2.

In Division One, Grangefield OB Reserves lost 3-2 at home to Old Batelians and are now second to bottom after their fourth defeat in five matches.

The final goal was a calamity for Grangefield and against the run of play, with three defenders going for the same cross and one of them heading into his own net.

St Bede's beat Leeds Independent 2-0 to climb to fourth with a 100 per cent record from three games.

Saints gradually gained the initiative and their neat football was rewarded when Ty Akram headed a Nathan Hurtault cross into the path of Gary Sunderland in the six-yard box.

Then after Jarad Peltier missed a self-created opportunity, it was Andy Gallagher who put the finishing touches to a move created by man of the match Sunderland.

In Division Three, Fairbank United beat Leeds City OB Res 4-2.

Omar Kante smashed home a brilliant strike, having been released by captain Bilal Saleem after only two minutes.

In a wonderful all-round performance by the captain, who stepped into midfield from his customary centre-back position, he doubled the lead with a sweet strike from the edge of the area which caught out the keeper.

Kante hit home a third goal to give Fairbank a commanding lead going into the break.

Within five minutes, Kante had bagged his hat trick, cutting inside and turning his marker inside out before smashing his strike in the top corner.

Thornesians Reserves lost 6-3 at home to Farnley Sports Reserves.

In Division Five, Drighlington Reserves lost 1-0 at home to Shire Academics Reserves.

This defeat leaves Drighlington second to bottom, with the winning goal for third-bottom Shire coming from Ryan Austin returning from injury.

Shire put on a superb performance to take all three points as, after their injury jinx struck again, they had to play the second half with ten men.
