Guiseley 1 Lincoln City 2

GUISELEY’S hopes of an FA Cup run were dashed at Nethermoor last night as their ten men tried in vain to force a late equaliser against Lincoln City in their fourth qualifying round replay.

The Imps came out like an express train and pinned the home side back in the opening ten minutes, Lions keeper Dan Atkinson was forced into a very early save by Harry Anderson.

The Imps’ striker had two further chances, either side of Adam Boyes almost reaching a through ball before the visitors’ keeper Paul Farman.

But it was Theo Robinson who broke the deadlock as he picked up a wayward clearance and caught the Guiseley defence off guard with a curling a shot from range into the top corner, six minutes before the break.

The visitors doubled their lead just minutes after the interval when Robinson pounced to slot the ball past Atkinson after Matt Rhead had headed down a diagonal ball into the area.

Just before the hour mark Guiseley were back in the game when a Nicky Clee cross picked out Boyes and he stabbed the ball under Farman.

But the Lions were reduced in numbers with 23 minutes remaining when Connor Brown was deemed to have led with an elbow as he contested a header.

The home side gave National League counterparts Lincoln some nervous moments, but Danny Cowley’s Imps ran the clock down as best they could until the final whistle.

Thackley also exited a cup competition as they lost 2-1 at home to Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division rivals Bridlington Town in the League Cup third round.

Brid took a grip on the tie with goals from Gareth Owen and Joel Sutton in the first quarter hour. The Dennyboys dominated the second half but had only Simon Rodriguez’s penultimate minute reply to show for it.

Albion Sports’ interest in the competition is also over after they lost 2-1 at Division One Selby Town. Asif Hussain was the Lions’ scorer.

Eccleshill United suffered a 5-2 defeat at Pontefract Collieries to dent their promotion hopes in Division One.

Silsden lost a fourth consecutive game in the Hallmark Security League when they were beaten 2-1 at Carlisle City in Division One.

Ryan Errington and Danny Balmer were on target for the hosts while Ross Wilson hit the Cobbydalers’ reply with all the goals coming in the first half.
