SANDY Lane got off to a flyer as the Bradford Sunday Alliance League season kicked off with a reduced programme of fixtures.

There was a full Premier and Division One schedule and Lane led the way in the top flight as they crushed Bolton Woods 12-1.

Thornton United also impressed on the opening day as they routed Bradford Moor 9-1, with Marcus Edwards netting five times supported by Ryan Stubbs (2), Dan Cunningham and Joe Cullen.

Oakenshaw made a winning start as they saw off Premier new boys Bradford Phoenix 4-1, with Andy Atkinson, Josh Hans, Callum Armitage and Joe Walsh on target before Ashley Warrington replied late on.

Defending champions West Bowling were also among the list of big winners as they began their 50th season in Sunday football with a 7-0 victory over promoted Allerton.

It took 40 minutes for Bowling to get on the scoresheet, with Glynn Hirst on target having seen an earlier shot rebound off the post.

The hosts doubled their advantage right on the half-time whistle, Steven Barge getting on the end of a through-ball, and Allerton then held on until the 71st minute until conceding again.

Hirst made it 3-0 with his second goal, Aidan Day added the fourth three minutes later and went on to complete his hat-trick before the end, with Hirst also making it a personal treble.

One other Premier match saw White Eagles and Ventus United share two goals and the points in a close encounter.

Lyceum headed the Division One scoring with a one-sided 8-0 win against Aire Athletic, while Prospect edged a seven-goal thriller against Grass Greener United to triumph 4-3.

Swaine Green enjoyed a good opening victory at Olympic, winning it 4-1.

There is another full programme of the top two divisions on Thursday and one that should be well worth watching sees Sandy Lane up against West Bowling.

Oakenshaw entertain Bolton Woods and Thornton United visit Ventus United, while in the second tier Lyceum are away to Grass Greener United.
