NEW Farnley will be hoping to lift the Heavy Woollen Cup for the first time when they face Hoylandswaine at Methley tomorrow.

The Bradford Premier League side suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Hanging Heaton in the 2013 final and the man who masterminded their downfall is now part of their team.

All-rounder Mark Lawson was captain of Hanging Heaton that day and according to New Farnley's in-form wicketkeeper/batsman Lee Goddard, he hasn't stopped reminding them of the fact.

"He won't let us forget it," said Goddard whose last two Premier Division knocks have seen him make 151 not out against East Bierley and 83 not out against Cleckheaton.

"We know we are in for a tough game. Hoylandswaine have players such as Alex Morris, Gharib Razak, Ryan Robinson, Richard Wilkinson and Iain Wardlaw, who all played in the Bradford League, and we know they are ambitious and want to win the cup for the first time too.

"But we are playing well at the moment. This season we haven't had to rely on just one person and we seem to have been able to find a way of winning close games, something we haven't done in past seasons."

One New Farnley regular who will miss the final is spinner Dave McCallum, who is unavailable.
