THE big question this week among local non-league circles has been: Are Thackley’s season ticket prices the cheapest in the country?

And so far it seems that there are no challengers to the Dennyboys’ bold claim.

An adult season ticket at Dennyfield costs just £50, with concessions priced at £25, 12 to 16-year-olds £10 and under-12s free.

A club statement said: “Thackley AFC are delighted to announce our fantastic season-ticket price for this season. The club really believe football should be affordable to all and are giving supporters a great offer to come and support grass-roots football.

“This great offer means for 21 home league games an adult pays less than £2.50 per game.”

There has been widespread reaction, with the club receiving plaudits for their pricing policy from all quarters. However, one of the Dennyboys’ neighbours and Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division rivals seem to have stolen Thackley’s thunder.

The non-league family is vast but tight-knit, and there were interactions on various social media platforms suggesting that a season ticket at Liversedge was just £40.

The Dennyboys were magnanimous in their response to the claim and said: “If that’s what they are charging then fair play to them – affordable football for all. Well done guys.”

But it turned out Sedge’s £40 season ticket was a half-price limited offer for a brief window in the close season.

A Sedge spokesman said: “We had that offer out at the end of June, running for a week. The discounted offer has now finished.

“We wanted to encourage people to come and watch their local team. We had a good uptake and it generated £500 in pre-ticket sales. We want more people to support non-league and grass-roots football.

“We had people buy a ticket, or multiple tickets, who have been once or twice, and hopefully they will come more often now.

"Our tickets are usually £80, which equates to just under £3.80 per game, so is still very reasonable.”

So Thackley are now officially the best value for money locally but both clubs, added to the excellent price Bradford City have for their season tickets and flexi-cards, underlines just how affordable it is to watch good-quality football in this area.
