ROB Hope (Pudsey & Bramley) finished sixth for England in the SNOWDON INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN RACE last Saturday, beating Ben Mounsey by 19 seconds in 68min 39sec.

The annual WASHBURN VALLEY RELAYS, around Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs, drew 73 teams last Friday evening.

Host club Otley AC provided the winning trio of Zach Whitehead, Scott Harrington and Adam Stacey, with the latter managing to haul in a 47-second deficit from North Leeds Fell Runners at the final changeover.

New club North Leeds were heading for victory, thanks to a course-record time on the second leg by Matt John (20min 30sec).

Fourth team home were Wetherby, whose Paul Millgate recorded a course best on the opening leg (17:17).

Wetherby were passed by Baildon on the second leg, who retained third position thanks to Chris Burke, Michael Malyon and Quentin Lewis.

Idle AC were second, behind Hyde Park, in the mixed team race and were sixth overall.

Sam Clegg and Mario Barbosa handed onto Donna Edmondson, but she could not prevent Hyde Park from overtaking one mile into the last leg.

On Sunday, Millgate went on to win the inaugural BRAMHAM 10K on an off-road course organised very successfully by the parish council.

Half the places remain open for the WEST YORKSHIRE 5 at Birkenshaw on Sunday, August 14.

The traditional "Firefighters 5" over the classic five-mile road distance is organised by Bradford-Airedale AC and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, with firefighter teams from across the country also due to compete.

Ilkley Harriers continue fund-raising for proposed new facilities, including adapted track-and-field facilities at Ben Rhydding.

They need to raise £310k, of which £60k will come from club events.

To this end, the Harriers are holding a SANTA FUN RUN on Sunday, November 20 on Ilkley Moor, for junior runners.

All entrants will be provided with a Santa suit but to give the elves time for sewing, early registration is requested!

It is hoped that 600 youngsters will enter either the 4.6 or 3km events or the one-mile fun run/walk.

Details are at http://www.ilkleyharriers.co.uk/jh/fundraising.html.
