OMARI Caro sent the Bulls flying into the top four with a career-best five-try haul – and now hopes he’s done enough to keep his place for Sunday’s do-or-die “cup final” at Featherstone.

The 44-12 win over Oldham at Odsal, led by Caro’s 20 points, saw them leapfrog Halifax into fourth place with one game of the regular season to go.

Given Bradford’s superior points difference, a win or draw at Post Office Road would now guarantee Rohan Smith’s rejuvenated side a place in the Qualifiers and a route back to Super League.

Yet Rovers themselves – who won a thriller at Fax to stay level on points with the Bulls - would beat them to the top four with victory.

Caro, who had played only two of the last seven matches due to injury before his recall against Oldham, said: “The guys that came in played really well so it was a question of getting back in the team.

“I took a bit of a knock against Leigh so missed Whitehaven but I proved myself fit for Oldham.

“Rohan Smith gave me the nod and hopefully I’ll keep my place. Rohan is a perfectionist and in the review he will look at the things I could have done better, but hopefully I’ve done enough to play next week.

“It’s the biggest game of the year so far. It’s a cup final for both teams. It will be a really tough game.

“The first game we had (this season) was against Featherstone here and we put a pretty decent score on them. As the year has gone on, they’ve plugged away – they’re a good team.

“We’ve made it hard for ourselves by losing games we should have won. This one is a big one for us and for the club as a whole, and we’re excited about it.”

It is the Bulls’ biggest match since last season’s defeat in the Million Pound Game at the end of the Qualifiers to decide the last of the places in Super League.

“The pressure is on both teams,” said Caro.

“Looking through our squad, a lot of guys have played in a lot of pressure games before and hopefully with the quality we’ve got we’ll be able to handle it.

“These are the kind of games you work for. These are the kind of games this club should be playing week in week out.

“If we get in the top four like we should do we will give it our best shot.

“The aim, 100 per cent, is to get into the top three of the Qualifiers to get automatic promotion, rather than play in that Million Pound Game again, which was a rubbish one for us last year.”

Asked if the club would do anything special ahead of this week’s humdinger, Caro said: “I can’t see anything changing in the schedule or timetable.

“It will be the same as the last three or four weeks.

“Rohan’s very smart in terms of preparation for opponents. The finer things will be changed, the game plan will be changed, but the vast majority of training will stay the same.”

Caro has bagged five tries in a game before but not since his academy days at London Broncos.

The 25-year-old Londonder’s previous best return in his senior career was a hat-trick in the first game of this season – that 22-12 win at home to Featherstone.

Three of his five tries against Oldham – which took his 2016 tally to 20 in 18 appearances – came from high kicks to his corner.

“Being 6ft 3in does help,” he smiled. “I’ve always said to the guys at the end of sets look for me. They did that and it obviously came off, and I’m happy with that.

“But I’m more pleased to get the win. At half-time it could have gone either way but the boys got around each other and said to pick our ideas up.

“We didn’t take our foot off the gas in the second half. We scored in the first minute and kicked on from there, and we nilled them as well in the second half, which is always a positive.”

On Oldham, he added: “There are some big lads in their team and they understand how to play the game. Whatever league you play in it’s going to be tough and to put 40-plus points on a team like that, no matter where they are in the league, is always an achievement.

“Two weeks on the trot we’ve played well and scored some good points so we’re going into next week in good form.”
