STUART McCall is determined to drum "good habits" into City after a hectic first full week of pre-season.

McCall has been pushing the players hard as the new coaching staff get a good look at the squad and the trialists currently boosting numbers at Apperley Bridge.

Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Rouven Sattelmaier is expected to play some part of this afternoon's opening friendly at Guiseley.

Sam Slocombe of Oxford could also be involved after training with the Bantams yesterday.

The former Scunthorpe stopper is halfway through a two-year deal with Michael Appleton's side but he has been told to find another club after they snapped up one-time City loanee Simon Eastwood from Blackburn.

Slocombe, recently linked with Chesterfield, played 28 times last season, having previously made 133 appearances for Scunthorpe.

Sattelmaier has been with City all week and sources in Germany believe he has the temperament and ability to succeed in England. He has been playing at third-tier level in the Bundesliga.

After leaving Bayern in 2012 without playing a senior game, he had a trial with Rangers before joining FC Heidenheim.

Sattelmaier, who is 28 like Slocombe, played last season with Stuttgart Kickers, the club where Edin Rahic was on the board, although they ended up being relegated.

As the player search goes on, McCall is happy at the way the current crop have knuckled down.

He said: "It's just good to be out on the training ground. From a coach and manager's point of view, there is nothing better than working with the players.

"They've not had a day off. We've been in every day doing double sessions and trying to get our ideas across. From now until the season starts, it's all about getting into good habits.

"I will be different to Phil (Parkinson), Kenny (Black) is different to Steve Parkin, the fitness coach Robert (Lossau) is different to Nick Allamby, the owners are different. We want to get our principles across.

"It's about getting to know each other and what we are after. Each session we want them to be at their maximum.

"As much as it is a game today, it's an extended training session. Guiseley will give us a tough test but it's not about the result.

"We've been working very hard and the players have been doing stuff on a Thursday and Friday that you wouldn't normally before a game."

McCall continues to preach patience with fans as City look to rebuild for the new season. He anticipates a busy period of signings but insists they will not be rushed into deals.

"Primarily centre midfield and centre forward are the areas that we need to fill," he said.

"Look at the back end of last season and the two central midfielders were loans. That might or might not be the case again.

"We're looking at trialists this week and next and we'll give them a chance – but there's no need to hit the panic button.

"We want to do the best we can with the money we've got. We could have brought 30 players in by now but we've got to make sure they are the right fit.

"With the loan market being different this year, we're going to have to be more selective, but we'll also be looking for a slightly bigger squad."
