WEST Bowling head into tomorrow’s visit of Beverley on the back of a fourth straight victory in the Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division.

Glenn Barraclough’s side defeated Mirfield Stags 20-18 in which was suspended RFL referee Richard Silverwood’s last game in charge of the Stags.

Tries from Max Trueman, James Crabb, Ben Heald and Chris Watson were just enough to see off Mirfield in torrential rain, much to the delight of their coach.

Barraclough said: “The game itself was a proper nightmare. We were effectively playing on standing water and the pitch was like one big puddle in horrendous conditions.

“In the first half we were winning the game comfortably but in the second half, Mirfield handled the awful conditions a lot better than we did and brought the game to us but we managed to hold out for the victory."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's home clash, he added: “Beverley are a physical side who play on a junior-sized pitch at home which works to their advantage and we had a strong game at their place and only lost by a point but we’ll make a better fist of it against them this time on our own ground.”

Queensbury bounced back from defeat in Division One with a 50-14 victory at Knottingley Worms.

Josh Boulger and Josh Naylor both scored a brace of tries with Ben Naylor, Robson Moore, Jack Evison, Greg Marriott and Michael Boocock also crossing the line, leaving coach Greg Worthington with a selection headache ahead of tomorrow’s game at home to Skirlaugh Bulls.

The Worms now head to face Wibsey Warriors, who return to action following a bye week after a defeat at the hands of Heworth.

Keighley Albion were knocked off top spot in Division Two by Leeds Akkies, who beat them 22-16.

Alex Young opened the scoring for visitors Albion, with Chris Price crossing also but injuring himself in the process. A Callum Hudson penalty and a further try from Jack Atkinson brought Albion level before they were defeated by a disputed try.

Victoria Rangers fell to a sixth straight league defeat as they went down 46-28 at Cutsyke Raiders.

The result leaves Frank Levy’s side at the foot of the table without a victory since the opening day of the season. Rangers will be looking to end their losing run at home to Ossett Trinity tomorrow.

Odsal Sedbergh’s home game against neighbours Drighlington was unable to go ahead as a result of the council digging on the pitch they use.

They remain unbeaten at the top of the Division Five standings ahead of tomorrow’s top-of-the-table clash at second-placed Bramley Buffaloes.
