COUGARS captain James Feather admitted last Saturday's surrender in Toulouse was the worst performance he has ever been involved in – but has vowed to make amends.

Keighley crashed to a humiliating 84-6 defeat in a shambolic performance which led to head coach Paul March issuing an apology to supporters.

March said his players would give up their match fees to fund travel costs for another away trip for those fans who made the long journey to the south of France.

The Cougars had hoped to push the League One leaders hard but were put to the sword in a 15-try hammering and Feather conceded his team's display was simply not acceptable.

"It was the worst performance I have been involved in since I've been at the club," said the long-serving hooker.

"We had been building up for this game for two or three weeks beforehand with the videos we had watched of Toulouse and the game-prep we did.

"Our preparations could not have been any better – we were probably over-prepared.

"Toulouse really looked after us, and we were really well fed in the place where we stayed, but as soon as we crossed the whitewash, we just weren't there.

"We played as individuals and, having watched the video back, you can see we were doing things on our own, such as shooting out of the line and trying to tackle someone.

"That left big holes and you can't do that against such a smart team.

"We didn't learn from that after the first ten minutes and I think there has been only one previous time when we have folded.

"That was in the reserves against Leeds Rhinos when they had players like Matt Diskin in their side and ripped us to bits by about 80 points.

"Toulouse away was only the second time we have folded and given up."

Feather said the players had no qualms with donating their match fee into a kitty for supporters.

He said: "Marchy came into the changing room afterwards and was fuming because we are his players and he expects certain standards.

"We were nowhere near those standards and at the end of the day, if you are a builder, a plumber or a plasterer and you go and do a job which isn't up to standard, then you don't get paid for it.

"Why should rugby league be any different? We have certain standards and we were nowhere near that.

"There must have been around 50 fans from Keighley and, after we put on such an embarrassing display, they deserve something back from us as players.

"We are going to put our losing pay into a pot to pay for the supporters' next away trip."

The Cougars face Barrow at home tomorrow and then a tough trip to Rochdale the following week, with Feather admitting there is little margin for error.

He said: "We came in to training on Tuesday focused on this week and not the previous game in Toulouse. We have to forget about it and put it to bed because it has happened now.

"You can dwell on it but you'll find yourselves slipping down the table and we can't afford that. We've got two really tough games now against Barrow and Rochdale, so we are going to have to be on the money."

Ash Lindsay misses out after suffering a blow to the head against Toulouse, while Ritchie Hawkyard is unavailable with a hamstring injury.

But centre Charlie Martin is set to play despite a shoulder problem sustained in France.
