YORKSHIRE require another 202 runs to beat Durham at Emirates Riverside and claim a second successive Specsavers County Championship win.
Set a target of 357 in a minimum of 81 overs this morning, the defending champions advanced to 155-3 from 44 overs at tea.
Adam Lyth and unbeaten Alex Lees shared an opening stand of 112 inside 33 overs, with both posting half-centuries.
At that stage, runs were coming freely, with Lyth lofting Scott Borthwick for a straight six in the second over after lunch.
But two wickets in two balls for Irish seamer Barry McCarthy put the brakes on. Lyth was caught at slip for 50 and Kane Williamson fell lbw for a golden duck in the 33rd over.
Gary Ballance hit 18 runs in his first seven balls but was later caught behind off Graham Onions for 32.
Lees began the final session of the match on 67, with Andrew Gale yet to get off the mark.
