JAMES Clare admits he would love to finish as the Bulls' top try scorer in 2016 after his latest double against Batley.

The versatile back, who has filled in at full back, wing and centre in recent weeks, has bagged 16 league tries this year.

That is one more than nearest rival Kris Welham and follows braces against Oldham and Batley last week.

"Kris and I have got a little competition going and I'm sure he will have a word in my ear this week not to score and let him have a chance," said Clare.

"At the moment, I've played every single minute of every single game this year.

"Right now, my main goal is continue doing that and the tries just come on the back of playing well.

"Like I always say, I just love playing rugby league, whether that be at wing, centre or full back.

"I'd rather get ten quick play-the-balls and let somebody else score a try if I can.

"Playing every minute of every game will do for me – but it's always nice to get those opportunities to score tries as well."

Clare's two tries against Batley both came from the good work of Lewis Charnock and it remains to be seen if the St Helens youngster will stay at Odsal beyond his initial one-month loan.

"Lewis is a very talented player and I don't think the Bulls have seen even half what he has to offer yet," said Clare.

"The longer he spends with us, the more he will get to know us as players and mates, so it will only benefit everyone.

"We are building confidence after three wins in eight days last week and it was good to beat Batley in particular.

"They are a very strong team with an incredible coach who has proven himself at Super League level, so to beat them gives us a bit of belief going into the Halifax game.

"Halifax are also a very strong team who complete really well – and they have some flair with the likes of Ben Johnston and Scott Murrell.

"We will definitely have to be on top of our game but we believe that we can continue to win for the rest of the year.

"We're all really good mates and when we sung our song after the Batley game, you could see the passion within the group."
