JAMES Clare is poised to hand the Bulls a massive boost by snubbing serious interest from THREE Super League clubs to sign a new deal at Odsal.

The former Castleford star, who is enjoying a fine run of form and has made the full back spot his own in recent weeks, is out of contract at the end of the year.

But the Telegraph & Argus can reveal that he will this week put pen to paper on a new two-year deal – keeping him at Bradford until the end of 2018.

It can also be revealed that Clare attracted interest from Hull KR, Wakefield and Widnes but was happy to commit his future to Rohan Smith’s side.

“Bradford have offered me a deal and I’m happy with it, so I just need to get into the office and sign it now,” said Clare.

“I like Rohan and what he’s doing there, plus the fact I’m a regular in the team here and am enjoying a lot of game-time.

“I get on with Rohan extremely well and can see us doing well under his guidance.”

Clare was speaking after Saturday’s agonising 24-20 loss to Leigh in the Summer Bash at Blackpool, where Bradford were cruelly denied victory by Micky Higham’s late try.

The match saw Richie Mathers line up in the halves alongside Oscar Thomas while the outstanding Danny Addy started at hooker with Adam O’Brien coming off the bench.

It was a fine display from Smith’s men in front of a huge travelling army of over 3,000 Bradford supporters.

Clare added: “I think that was the closest to an 80-minute performance that we’ve had all season.

“We started the game extremely well and then we kind of lost it going into the second half when they got the two tries before half-time to level things up.

“We talked about being better in the second half but they came out a lot stronger than us and we were on the back foot.

“We then got back in front, so to lose it like we did was really unlucky. But credit to Leigh – they were very strong.”

Smith’s search for new signings is intensifying and Clare said the Australian was stamping his mark on Odsal following his recent appointment.

“Rohan has only been here for a couple of weeks, but he’s been incredible,” said Clare.

“He’s put a few ideas in our head, talking about the process and preparation for every single game, so the longer he gets with us the better and better I can see us becoming.

“What’s he changed? I think when you get a new coach people tend to lift their intensity anyway because they see it as a fresh start.

“The players who have been playing see it as a bit of a threat because he has come in and said ‘everybody is on a level playing field now and whoever trains the best will play’. That’s the way it has been.”

On the backing that Bradford received from their supporters at Bloomfield Road, Clare added: “Obviously I grew up as a Castleford lad but the Bradford support today was unbelievably overwhelming.

“I felt like one of the fans on the field today and wanted to win for them just as much as for the team.”
