GUISELEY Vixens face an agonising wait to know their fate in the FA Women's Premier League after an equalising goal by Newcastle, in the third minute of added time, denied them a win in their final game that would have ensured survival.

Lying second from bottom, and two points behind Nuneaton, Guiseley knew they needed all three points and, despite going a goal down midway through the first half, they looked to have achieved their target when goals from Tania Rich and Kate Anderton took them into the last minute of the game with a 2-1 lead.

Then a last gasp corner was headed home to salvage a point for the Geordie girls and John Shirt's Vixens were left devastated.

"It is all now up in the air," said the Guiseley boss. "As I understand it, Sporting Albion, the Northern Division champions, have to play the Southern Division champions Brighton tomorrow and if Albion win, decide they want to move into the Second Division of the Women's Super League and meet all the requirements, then only one team will be relegated.

"Albion's absence will then accommodate the two clubs being promoted from the next tier down but if they are in this division again next season then two will be relegated – and we will be back in the Premier League's Division One (North)."

Regardless of the outcome, Shirt has confirmed that he will be fielding a reserve team next year.

So, with Bradford City desperate to better this year's fifth place finish in the WPL, and Huddersfield Town holding their own, Leeds in Division One and Brighouse Town winning promotion to Division One as North East Regional League winners, the West Riding will be well represented next season.

There is also the prospect of a glut of derby games in the Reserve Division with all these clubs fielding second teams.
