GREAT Horton Park Chapel notched the major upset in the second round of the Spenser Wilson Halifax League's Parish Cup.

The First Division club were indebted to No 3 Adam Beesley, who made 108 not out in their 224-6 off 45 overs against Sowerby Bridge, with the in-form Chris Brown scoring 52 and adding 133 for the fifth wicket with Beesley as Chapel recovered from 46-4.

Bridge, who are fifth in the Premier Division, were 40-4 but there was no revival this time around and they were dismissed for 133, with Beesley taking 3-4 off 3.2 overs, Matthew Jordan 3-11 and Zubair Patel 3-31.

Second Division outfit Clayton, inspired by Chris Ramsden, may also have been dreaming of knocking off a top-flight club at Jer Lane, the Premier Division champions in 2013-15 and cup winners in 2013.

Jer made 211-8, with Imran Mirza hitting 65, Jonny Waddington 44 and Wayne Cotton and Michael Hustler 30 each as Ramsden took 3-39.

Opener Tim Shackleton (39) and No 3 Ramsden (77, including three fours and six sixes) gave Clayton hope and it was only Hustler pegging them back with 5-38 that left the underdogs 20 runs short.

Blackley defeated Queensbury by 170 runs in a battle between the second-placed clubs in the top two divisions, Maz Bhatti (3-30), Joshua Dougall (3-44) and Nick Richardson (39) doing best for Bury, while there was no joy either for Thornton, who lost by 131 runs against Booth.

Shelf, whose key figures were Robert Ramsden (5-43) and Sadiq Hyder Ali (58no), are keeping the flag flying for the Second Division after an eight-wicket victory over bottom club Greetland.

But Denholme Clough were no match for Premier Division basement boys Blackley, also losing by eight wickets, despite 60 from opener Ghulam Farid and 53 by Asad Mukhtar.
