POWER puncher Christopher Windle hopes his elevation to the England boxing ranks will finally get him some opponents.

The 16-year-old, who boxes for the Laisterdyke club in Bradford, recently picked up a third straight national title with victory in the junior finals at Chester-le-Street.

Windle’s power blew away Hoddesdon's Jamie Clare with a second round stoppage in the 42kg category at Birtley ABC. It was his 16th win in 17 bouts – eight of them inside the distance.

The Holme Wood teenager had previously won at schoolboy and junior level and his progress has finally come to England’s attention.

Coach Matt Nelson is delighted with his call-up into the national squad – because it means Windle should actually get in the ring more.

Nelson said: “We can’t match him up. Nobody wants to box him – when they see him going into championships, they just pull out.

“He’s just too strong and powerful for his weight. That was his first fight in 12 months.

“It’s so frustrating for Chris and I’m worried that he’ll just get fed up and pack it in.

"But England have seen him box and couldn’t believe he hadn’t been picked before.

“I’ve had him training with kids who box for England and he just beats them up.

“Once he goes into the national squad he’ll definitely get picked for Great Britain. I guarantee he’ll be boxing all over the world before long.”
