LIVERSEDGE are on the brink of salvation following tonight’s 4-1 home victory over Clipstone which left them needing just one point from their final two games to be sure of retaining their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division place.

Sedge have been in the drop zone for most of this year but a valiant late run has earned them enough points to be clear of the trapdoor. They go in search of mathematical safety in their penultimate game on Saturday.

Their visitors are Cleethorpes Town, who have enjoyed a very good season and challenged for the title throughout but the third placed club couldn’t match Tadcaster Albion who were crowned champions tonight.

THACKLEY’S final game of the league season will be their last game of the campaign after a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat at home to Bridlington Town in the League Cup quarter-finals tonight.

The Dennyboys cannot finish the season in the top half of the table either but they would end on the same points as local rivals Albion Sports if they beat struggling Brigg Town at Dennyfield on Saturday.

They will be facing a tough task though as their opponents will be battling to rescue their top tier status. Brigg are currently in the drop zone but if they bank a maximum and other results go their way they could be safe.
