ANDREW Tate of Clayton won the Yorkshire Parks Merit after showing superb form throughout the day at Hove Edge WMC.

Tate made it through to the last 16 of the competition, sponsored by John Summers (Family Butchers) and Beacon Road Fisheries, to set up a match with clubmate David Scott after wins over Nicky White (Thongsbridge) 21-11 and Jon Edmondson (Pudsey) 21-13.

Tate and Scott both excel in the corners but it was Tate who came out on top, winning 21-15, and he was in the zone in his quarter-final against Yorkshire county player Tom Hanson (Pudsey) in easing to a great 21-12 victory.

In the semi-final, Tate was up against another in-form player in Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports), who had been impressive in his 21-4 quarter-final triumph over John Benson (Eccleshill).

But again it was Tate who prevailed 21-16 to set up a match with Michael Sweeney (Overthorpe Sports), who had just seen off Robbie Ellis (Shipley Club) 21-17.

Tate was always in control in the final, staying in the corners again to win 21-16.

The semi-finalists, and probably the losing quarter-finalists, automatically qualify for the British Parks Individual Merit finals on Sunday, August 14 at the Waterloo in Blackpool.
