BRADFORD Park Avenue boss Martin Drury admits his side are champing at the bit ahead of today’s home game with Stockport County after another frustrating week due to the wet weather.

He was hoping to see his side build on two successive wins but nature intervened yet again.

Last Saturday’s Vanarama National League North home game against struggling Corby Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch as was Avenue’s midweek West Riding County Cup semi-final at home to Evo-Stik Division One North outfit Ossett Albion.

Drury said: “We had a good training session on Thursday but more importantly it was a necessary one as a few of the lads were a bit rusty.

“The weather has been unkind but we won’t be using that as an excuse because it has affected all of the other teams as well. There was only one game in our division that survived last Saturday.

“The players have worked hard this week and are really excited about today because they have missed their football. The lads are itching to get a game under their belts and they know it will be a difficult one against Stockport.

“They are a tough side and they’re in transition at the moment with a new manager and their players will be putting a lot of effort in to prove themselves to him. That makes them a dangerous side to play but we’re looking forward to what I expect to be a very competitive game.

“We will try to pick up where we left off and build on what was a very good result at Gainsborough Trinity which was followed by the win over Halifax Town in the county cup.”

Drury is without Jake Scott, who was injured at Gainsbrough, and Richard Marshall, who broke his nose against the Shaymen, but is due to welcome back two players who have been out on loan in James Walshaw and Massiah McDonald.

The manager said: “James and Massiah will be back with us after their loan periods end this weekend and we will be glad to have them.

“James has done well at Frickley Athletic and has scored goals, so he’s been looking sharp. He has enjoyed getting a few games and Frickley have enjoyed having him.

“Massiah has played the majority of games in his time at Corby Town and he will return fitter and with game time so they have been two very valuable loan spells.”
