JAMIE Proctor has only just signed a deal with City – but he is already after another.

The striker converted his loan switch from Fleetwood into a permanent one for the rest of the season at the start of last week.

And he immediately set his sights on earning his next contract and extending his stay at Valley Parade beyond the summer.

“I’m just here to impress,” he admitted quite openly. “The staff know what I’m about already and that’s why I wanted to take it up to the end of the season.

“It’s the same situation for me (as before), I’ve still got to impress.

“I’ve got to perform as I know I can and score as many goals as possible. Then come the summer we’ll see what happens.”

The 23-year-old was originally viewed as a short-term makeweight in the deal which took Devante Cole to the Fylde coast for a reported £75,000. He needed little persuading to cement his position when it became apparent that he was not in Steven Pressley’s Fleetwood plans.

Proctor added: “I always wanted something to happen when I first came here but you don’t know what Fleetwood are thinking or the gaffer here.

“It’s good for me to have that security and know what I’m doing now for the rest of the season.

“Football does change so quickly and you have to make quick decisions about your future.

“I was in and around the team every week at Fleetwood and then next minute get a call to say Bradford want me.

“I’m playing the following game and then two weeks later it’s made permanent and I’m completely gone. But hopefully this will benefit me.

“If I’d have gone back to Fleetwood, I wouldn’t have been involved as much. I’m hoping that’s going to be the difference here.

“But that’s not a gimme. I’ve got to put in the performances and hopefully keep getting picked.”

The Cole cash also allowed Parkinson to bring in Wes Thomas from Birmingham on a three-month loan as he looks to pep up City’s goal-shy attack.

Proctor made the dream start with a goal on his debut to rescue a point against Port Vale. But he missed with a header at Burton last weekend and was subbed for Thomas at half-time.

City are one of the lowest scorers in League One with 29 goals from 28 games – 25 less than tomorrow’s hosts Peterborough.

Proctor accepts there is a responsibility on the frontmen to rectify that record.

He said: “The squad as a whole like to see the strikers scoring goals. It gives them confidence knowing that if they are putting the ball in the right areas and creating chances, we can finish them off.

“For whatever reason it hasn’t been happening over the past months.

“But for us to not score as many goals as we’d like and still be in touch with the play-offs is a good sign.

“We’ve got a great team spirit, the lads at the back have kept a lot of clean sheets and we can grind out wins.

“You’ve got to have a solid base first and foremost but we know a few more goals can only help us.”

City have struggled to take points off teams in the top half and must buck that trend with the Peterborough trip followed by a home clash with Southend, another play-off contender, on Tuesday.

Proctor, who played under Posh boss Graham Westley for Stevenage, said: “Most teams are of a similar standard in this league.

“There’s not much of a gulf, even between the top and bottom. It comes down to being consistent if you want to stay in touch.”
