JIMMY Lowes insists he is more than happy with his current half-back options as he declared: I don’t need a scrum half!

The Bulls remain without a recognised number seven following the close-season departure of Harry Siejka as Danny Addy partnered Lee Gaskell during Sunday’s opening win over Featherstone.

Adrian Purtell and Oscar Thomas can also play there and, when asked about the timescale for signing another half-back, head coach Lowes said: “I don’t need one – I’m happy with what I’ve got.

“I’ve got one of the game’s best half-backs in Lee Gaskell and Danny Addy did a fantastic job for us last year – he played alright against Featherstone as well.

“It’s only the media who seem to want us to buy a half-back and I don’t know why.

“We’ve got plenty of options so signing another half-back is not a priority, unless Andrew Johns becomes available.

“You always look at quality players in any position, no matter what you’ve already got.

“If I feel there is a player who would enhance the squad then I will go and chat with Marc Green to see if there are funds available.

“That communication will happen at the time rather than planning anything now.”

Meanwhile, winger Danny Williams is set for a period on the sidelines while Paul Clough is still out and Ben Kavanagh is due to visit a specialist today following the leg injury he suffered against Featherstone.

Lowes, who could hand youngster Joe Lumb a chance at Whitehaven on Saturday, added: “Danny has had an operation on his finger but I’m not sure on the exact rehab time. He’s certainly out for the foreseeable future.”

Dan Caprice and Rhys Jacks were not offered contracts following their recent trials and Lowes said: “It was just the wrong time for Dan to come in because he arrived just a few days before the Leeds friendly.

“We then played Castleford the week after, so the bulk of our training had been done by then.

“It was really tough for him to make an impression from that point, so we weren’t going to keep him and it was the same with Rhys.

“Rhys came and had a bit of dig, but he wasn’t what we were looking for at this time.”
