BRADFORD No 1 had a hard fought but scrappy 4-2 victory against Harrogate at Undercliffe Cricket Club in Division One of the Yorkshire Inter-District Snooker League.

In a re-match of last seasons' Yorkshire final, Wayne Cooper faced Gyles Behbood, and both players showed mutual respect.

Cooper won the first frame 57-48 on the black, but Behbood made a 40 break in the next to level 63-19.

Kevin Firth was in good form early, establishing a good lead, but opponent Stuart Jauncey had a break of 35 to make things tight.

However, Firth got one late opportunity and grabbed it, clearing with a break of 32 to win 80-39, which was followed by an 88-25 success in their next.

Lewis Walsh and Andy Blamire contested a tight tactical battle throughout, with Walsh taking the first frame 70-20 and Blamire edging the last frame 56-54 on the black .

Division Two leaders Bradford No 2 were held 3-3 at Cue Gardens by Brighouse, but remain at top of the table.

Peter Hamilton lost both his frames (73-31, 69-52) to Jimmy Sykes, but a break of 74 by captain Hanif Rafiq pulled a frame back at 96-12, although opponent Andy Kitson edged the next 67-50 to put the visitors 3-1 up.

Boover Singh, playing his first match for a while, was in top form, though, and made breaks of 43 and 40 in the first frame to win 107-0 and completed the night and a share of the points for the teams with a 76-30 win against Neil Connor.

The draws for the quarter-finals of the Bradford Snooker and Pairs Championships were made at Undercliffe Cricket Club prior to Bradford No 1s' match.

Holder and nine-times champion Cooper (Undercliffe Cricket Club) has been drawn to face in-form Cue Gardens' Rafiq, while four-time winner Gareth Green takes on Lewis Walsh in an all-Eccleshill Victoria Cons clash.

Last season's runner-up Mark Slater (Clayton Libs) will play Darren Goy (Eccleshill Victoria Cons), with Josh Walker (Undercliffe Cricket Club) taking on Anthony Green (Harold Club).

The draw for the pairs is: R Hagerty & R Beckford v W Cooper & K Firth, M Slater & J Murgatroyd v J&C Wellham, R Morgan & J Walker v G&A Green, C&D Tolson v L Walsh & H Mawson.

The Bradford Billiards Championship qualifiers take place at Cue Gardens on Saturday, with entries accepted up to 11.45am.

The format will be similar to last year, with round-robin matches to produce four semi-finalists, and all players are guaranteed a minimum of three one-hour games.
