IT CAME as no surprise this week that Farsley Celtic had been named the Evo-Stik League Division One North club of the month for January.

The shock was that they did not win it in November or December.

The Celts have a 100 per cent record through all three months, winning 12 games in a row – topped by last week's 5-0 thrashing of second-placed Northwich Victoria.

Their five-star display against one of the title contenders was not Farsley's only big win during the run. January's haul saw them score 17 goals and concede just two.

The goals were shared out among the team, with Lewis Nightingale grabbing four, Adam Clayton and Aiden Savory three each and Paddy Miller two. Lewis Sugden, Aaron Hardy, Chris Howarth, Jordan Deacey and Ross Daly all weighed in with one apiece.

Farsley must have been in the running for the award in November and December as they won all of their league fixtures.

November saw them beat Shaw Lane in the Doodson Sports League Cup and a 6-0 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels the following month means they are still in the competition.

Celts boss Neil Parsley said: "It's been frustrating for a few of the lads who can't play a full part because they haven't had chance to break into the side.

"Lewis Sugden, Josh Grant, Kyle Harrison and even Jordan Deacey have spent a lot of time on the bench.

"But they've all contributed and it's paying dividends. They have all shown the same team ethic as well and have had the right attitude to training and in the games when they've come off the bench.

"Anyone who has been in football for any length of time knows that winning 12 on the spin doesn't come around too often and we just want to keep it going for as long as we can."

Parsley will be presented with the award by league secretary Angie Firth before next Saturday's home game against Lancaster City.
