It's official! Rhodes confirms McCall IS boss

Julian Rhodes today broke his silence on the world's worst-kept secret and confirmed: Yes, Stuart McCall is our new boss.

Rhodes spoke to reassure any doubters among the club's jubilant fans that City really have got their man, as exclusively revealed on our website on Thursday afternoon.

"In light of intense media speculation, I'm delighted to say that the new manager is Stuart McCall," said the Bantams chairman.

"We weren't going to announce it until early June when he will be unveiled properly but some people have been getting a bit nervous so we thought something should be said.

"It's out in the open now and everybody can look forward to Stuart returning."

Wayne Jacobs is also expected to come back to Valley Parade as McCall's assistant manager.

The 38-year-old has been at Halifax as number two to Chris Wilder since leaving City in 2005. It is thought he is still under contract but the Shaymen, who are busy preparing for a possible take-over this week, are unlikely to stand in his way.

Jacobs, who still lives locally, made more than 350 appearances in the claret and amber during an 11-year spell and was granted a testimonial match against Bolton in 2004. He played his final City game the following April in a 4-2 win over Bournemouth, receiving a standing ovation from the Valley Parade crowd when he came off the bench for the last six minutes.

Jacobs enjoyed a dream start at The Shay as Halifax shocked the Conference big boys by making it all the way to the play-off final on a shoestring budget. They lost a thrilling showdown 3-2 to hot favourites Hereford at Leicester's Walkers Stadium.

But with expectations raised, Halifax were unable to repeat that success last term. They never recovered from winning only one of the opening nine games and, despite having the third best home record in the division, the Shaymen only just managed to scramble clear of the drop.

Jacobs is very much a hands-on assistant, taking a lot of the training sessions and getting actively involved in the scouting.

A source close to The Shay confirmed: "Wayne always seems well informed about everything going on. He is very committed about his work as you would expect from the way he played."

Jacobs and McCall amassed more than 700 league appearances for City between them and have always maintained close ties with the club.

Considering Wayne's involvement with the community for City (He seemed to be in the T&A every week), I'm glad of the news, his commitment to the City cause cannot be forgotten, and welcome him back to VP, he will have goos knowledge of the lower leagues from Halifax, one thing we will get from Stu & Wayne is 100%. Finally. What lifts my heart as much as Stuart coming back is that another City legend is returning as well in Wayne Jacobs. An often criticised yet consistent, committed, loyal and competent player he was always one of my favourites. Nice man to boot always had time for a fan and will I'm sure be given as big a welcome back as Macca. here's to bigger and better things, the only way is up.

as a memorial to all those who died and sufferred in teh fire why don'y we go back to the colours we had them:

primarily all white with claret and amber and black trimmings--maybe with MEMORIAL SHIRT.
remember the 56.

Maybe then every city player who wears the shirt will play with pride and go that extra yard or put in that little bit extra.

away kit--claret and black stripes again!!

ok maybe I am being sentimental
here BUT maybe those players to come will learn that there is something special about VP!!

Thank goodness.

Every manager at City for the last 5 years at least must have picked up the vibe from around the club that we were just treading water until Macca became available; and this would have continued until he finally returned.

I know they often say 'never go back' - and we have plenty of our own examples to prove this theory - but Stuart is such a motivator, such an encourager, such a talisman and such a man, I reckon he's got what it takes to lead us back to glory. Bantam Progressivism might just be reborn.

and how about this then:

new shirts, memoraail shirts, sponsored by JCT and major sponsorship from Morrisons-- shirts, ground whatever:they could be at the forefront of a rebirth.

I personally know one director of Morrisons who I went to school with and played football with who is a regular at every home game and not so long ago used to stand on the kop with us and was in the paddock the day the fire went up. Can he not use his influence with his other board members-- after all they sponsor Scotland why not sponsor their home town team to some degree. Maybe they could hand out some money off vouchers at each game--thereby benefitting the supporter and maybe generating more income-- a scheme could be generated from those vouchers so that the company agree to put so much of the used voucher spend back into the club in hard cash.

so come on let's try get the whole of BRADFORD behind a rebirth--we will never have a better chance now the prodigal son has come home.

lets forget the rifts and rows Morrison had with GR, Forget the differences between Tordoff and others-- let's all get together and raise the profile of Bradford through it's football club--let's get that steady progess which got us to the premiership and created all that good will and publicity:the chance is here and now:let us not blow up over petty squabbles here and there! the whole is greater than the individual

It would be great if Morrisons did stump up some cash, but there have been rumours of it for years with nothing ever happening. It's worth remembering that they only sponsor Scotland because Safeways were the sponsors before Morrisons took them over. Surely the best attraction for any potential sponsors is 10,000 buying season tickets and confirming that we have the biggest fanbase in the division.
Not sure about the white shirts though - too much like Beeston Utd. We should definitely go back to black shorts though - we were wearing them in 1996 and 1999.

white shirts--yes I still have teh picture of that team:

thye were introduced by CHERRY AND YORATH--why cos Don Revie did it for Leeds when he took over--they played in blue and gold. the reason!!
REAL MADRID and white kits always makes players look that bit bigger than they are actually.

however put teh leeds bit to one side--why should they ever be mentioned on these pages without being subjected to ***********: it is City we care about, its rebirth and if it menas going back to where in essence are struggles from re-election candidates etc were born--let;s do it.

I know its a time to get excited people but think we need to calm down, I like every1 hope he has the 'Roy Keane' affect on City.

But we need to be realistic its not gonna be any easy season I thin if we finish just outside playoffs and get decent crowds then that will prompt some1 to invest, but at the min just cant see it, think we need to let the ginger messiah do his own thing and not give him unwanted pressure.

COME ON CITY!!!

Love the idea of the memorial shirt, waterside.Perhaps a couple of quid from each shirt sale could go to the burns unit at the B.R.I.If the players couldn't raise their game wearing that shirt with everything it represents then they shouldn't be playing for Bradford City f.c.

Welcome home Stuart.

You've got to feel sorry for the Sheffield Utd fans, we get Mac back and things are looking good, they get that poor excuse for a manager Brian Robson. Not much hope for them is there ?
I mean we've had some bad managers over the years, but Robson,,,, no inspiration, no passion, no fight, no bl**dy chance

hi
not thought of the Burns Unit idea but it would be welcomed--alternativ
ely the club could ask for each supporter to pay a couple of quid extra as a donation--make that a chaitable donation and the unit could probably claim some back from the government

just think we could be in the same division as sheffield united by the end of next season!!!! but who cares--onward and upward for city!!

jas anyone direct input into City through to look at the shitrt issue--colours, donations etc etc

Waterside's shirt idea is excellent - hope these messages are picked up by Simon Parker. An excellent way to signal a new beginning for City whilst acknowledging our past.
Credit to JR - conducted himself with real dignity and showed he really is City through and through.
Can't wait to get my hands on my season ticket

What great news can't wait for the ginger duo to get a grip. Glad to see the back of the mercenary journeymen seeing out their careers at VP. Now my 5 and 7 year olds will see what I have been drilling into them during their first long and painful season and we will together witness our beloved club getting out of reverse gear. CTWD!!!!

white shirts etc--- ok the T AND A have done a great job on the season tickets--what would it cost the t and a to donate the kits with a small sponsorship deal--collar tabs, sock ties etc and , more importanatly, what would they gain by being formly behind teh club as it resurrects. sadly i think GR intimidated the T AND A so they did not report us too well in the past--maybe that friendship
over tickets etc could be further enhanced by this small gesture on shirts.

i am only putting forward ideas but hope this can be the kick start to a brighter future will all pulling together.

who has direct access to SIMON PARKER to run with the idea.
