CITY of Bradford Esprit Diving Club only took 11 divers to Edinburgh to compete in the Thistle Trophy, but came away with several top-10 finishes, including a second and two fourths.

The competition saw divers come from all over the United Kingdom, from as far afield as Aberdeen and Southampton, while a team from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, also took part.

Sophie Mawson, competing in the girls' Group B (14-16 years), took home a silver medal after a consistent set of dives, while Abbie Hindle just missed out on a bronze in the girls' Group E (eight to nine years) and Owen Passmore performed some near-perfect entries in coming fourth in the boys' Group B (14-16 years), being only three points off a medal.

Team-mate Harry Spencer was close behind in ninth after some fantastic three-metre dives, while debutant Jack Gilbert was a superb sixth in the boys' Group E (eight to nine years).

Benjamin Mullet was seventh in the boys' C event (12-13 years), with Verity Burns and Imogen Tomlinson finishing 18th and ninth respectively in the equivalent girls' event.

In the girls' group D event (10-11 years), three Bradford divers took part in the 47, with first-timers Lucy Nelson and Georgina Munich giving solid performances to place 37th and 35th, while Freya Daines was excellent with a new personal best of 11th.

Esprit came fourth in the team trophy, beating off competition from much larger squads..

The City of Bradford Esprit Diving Club work closely with the Bradford Council's Aquatics Competitive Diving Training Scheme, and this partnership has, year on year, produced diving champions at all levels in the Junior National Championships.
