BOXER Tasif Khan insists he "can't wait" for his world title fight night in London.

The Girlington-born fighter is set to face Isaac Quaye of Ghana for the WBU international super-flyweight championship at York Hall in the capital, with his big moment now less than a week away.

After a successful training camp in Spain – and an open sparring session for his supporters at Bethlehem Boxing Club in Leeds – the fighter is feeling in perfect condition for his bout and proud to be representing Bradford on the world stage.

On his build-up to Sunday's bout, Khan told the T&A: "Training has been great. I've now got one more hard week before we wind down before the fight.

"I'm feeling strong mentally and physically for this fight and obviously can't wait now for the big night."

The Bradford ace also commented on the fantastic backing he has had from his fans and the local community in the build-up.

That included a visit from Bradford mayor Joanne Dodds, who helped Khan with his last-minute preparations for his title shot.

Khan said: "I can't thank everyone enough. I've had great help and support from Bradford council, the Lord Mayor, my sponsors and all the people from Bradford – the fans, my family and my friends."

"I've got quite a few supporters travelling down for the fight.

"I've had to head down to London for this – but that's what I need to do to win the title and bring it back to Bradford. Then I can get a big show here for all our people for my title defence."

The 32-year-old is particularly excited at the prospect of claiming a belt that has been held by so many great names in the past.

Khan said: "I'm more than excited – I'm very proud, obviously, because it's the WBU world title.

"To be on the same list as so many great names is an honour because the WBU was previously held by Ricky Hatton, Roy Jones Jnr, Shea Neary and Micky Ward.

"To be on that list is making history for me and for everyone in Bradford – and hopefully a proud moment for me and all of my loved ones.

"I'm grateful and I can't be thankful enough for all the backing I've had so far."
