Bridlington Town 2, Albion Sports 1

UNDER-strength Albion suffered a narrow Toolstation Northern Counties East League defeat and ended with ten men as they were overhauled by hosts Bridlington Town.

The east-coast outfit are now up to fifth in the Premier Division, while Kulwinder Sandhu's men drop to tenth.

Albion keeper Jack Bentley was dismissed for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity in the last minute, when the result was already sealed.

Brid skipper Tom Fleming headed in from a corner midway through the first half and the home side took that slender lead into the break.

Marcus Edwards had the ball in the net for Sports, but from an offside position, while Bentley made a great save just before the break to prevent the visitors from going even further behind.

The prolific Edwards grabbed Albion an equaliser when he headed home a Lee Elam cross midway through the second half.

The visitors pushed forward but, from their 76th-minute free-kick, Brid countered and Joel Sutton converted Andy Norfolk's cross.

Bentley saw red when he raced out to challenge Norfolk and brought him down.

Albion spokesman Pete Cusack said: "It was a bit of a scratch squad. We had nine players out – six injured and three unavailable.

"We have been carrying a few walking wounded and I think that pitch at Maltby in the last game finished a few off.

"We had Joe Barden, a new signing, playing and Mohamed Kaba, who came on a sub last week, was making his first start.

"They were both playing in defence, so it was of a nightmare for Kully (Sandhu) to get the lads organised.

"It was a good game but it was wet and windy and the conditions definitely affected the quality."
