NEW Bulls recruit Kurt Haggerty admits he has one eye on a career in coaching when he finally hangs up his boots.

The second-rower is enjoying life at Bradford following his recent arrival from Leigh on a one-year deal.

He also serves as head coach at St Helens-based amateur outfit Pilkington Recs, who recently secured promotion to amateur rugby league's top flight for the first time since 1991.

Haggerty guided them into the National Conference Premier Division and said: "I thoroughly enjoy my role at the Recs.

"I'm the head coach and I played for them as a junior, having joined them from Blackbrook Royals. I served as assistant and was delighted to take up the reins as head coach.

"We're doing really well at the moment and I would like to go into coaching when my career is over."

Haggerty expects his old side Leigh to challenge strongly for promotion again next term.

"I've got some very good friends there who I've got a lot of respect for," he said.

"Leigh are a very good side but I'll be doing my best to help Bradford beat them. We're the two best sides in the Championship – but Halifax are also looking really strong.

"So are Featherstone, plus Sheffield are going full-time, so there are some very good sides and we need to be on our game every week.

"Even at the lower end of the table, you're going to get some really tough battles at places like Workington and Whitehaven."
