BAILDON Trinity Athletic, seeking a third straight win in Division One of the West Yorkshire League, suffered wedding blues and lost 2-0 at Featherstone Colliery.

Many of the visitors' squad were at the nuptials and they could only take 11 players and no substitutes, soaking up much early pressure as goalkeeper Steven Sample pulled off a couple of fine saves and skipper Elliot Moody clearing an effort off the line.

Baildon did have opportunities at the other end, however, tireless striker Lee Mathers almost putting them ahead with a close-range shot which rattled off the upright.

However, Featherstone took the lead five minutes before the break when a free-kick into the area fell at the feet of a home striker at the far post who had beaten the offside trap and fired the ball into the far corner.

Trinity came out for the second half still looking to play their passing game and the tricky Sean McVey created a couple of half-chances, while central midfielder Darren Rands came agonisingly close to equalising with a couple of long-range shots.

Featherstone almost doubled the lead against the run of play, Sample unbelievably tipping a ball wide that was heading for the top corner.

But the game was sealed when a Trinity centre back slipped on the boggy surface, allowing a Colliery striker to score with ten minutes left.

This result enabled Featherstone to narrow the gap at the bottom to a point behind Baildon but the Colliery men also have three games in hand.

Field had no Premier Division fixture because five of their players – Aidan Day, Danny Cunningham, Nick Doherty, Danny Nolan and Darryll Leach – were selected for the West Yorkshire League's FA Inter-League Cup tie against the West Cheshire League, which they won 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals.

The Heavy Wollen and District FA Wheatley Cup tie between Wyke Wanderers and Thornhill was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, as was the Alliance Division One match between Field Reserves and Wyke Wanderers Reserves.
