Yorkshire Division Two: Moortown 13, Keighley 14

A MEDIOCRE game of rugby was littered with an inordinate number of penalties and, as the scoreline suggests, the result could have gone either way.

The first score was a penalty for the home team, kicked by fly half Mark Shires but, a little later, Alex Brown replied with two of his own.

Towards the end of the half, Moortown profited from a string of penalties through which they gained good field position, and a strong drive at a line-out led to a short pass for winger Bob Taylor to score in the corner.

The second half was equally dire, with Keighley again taking the lead with a penalty by Brown.

After an extended midfield impasse, where neither team were able to break down the opposition, Keighley managed to gain a line-out after yet another penalty.

A strong drive after gaining possession gave new boy Callum Craig a touchdown in the corner.

The final minutes were taken up with a series of penalties, Moortown opting for the scrum on each occasion on the Keighley five-metre line.

Eventually the pressure told, and full back Matt Halkier crossed in the corner. Unfortunately for Moortown, Shires sent the conversion wide.
