ALEX Mellor is aiming to build on his comeback appearance against Salford with another impressive display in this weekend's visit of Widnes.

The homegrown back-rower came off the bench in the 41-10 victory over the Red Devils in what marked his first outing since the home win against Doncaster on June 7.

Mellor suffered a knee injury against the Dons and subsequently missed the next ten games before returning to action in the Super 8s qualifier against Salford.

Now back in Jimmy Lowes' side, he wants to stay there as the Bulls seek to take another step towards promotion.

"You're never quite sure when you're going to get back in the team when you've been injured," said Mellor.

"But for Jimmy to put faith in me and pick me against a great team like Salford was massive for my confidence.

"There is no complacency on my part because I always think I can work harder and keep progressing. I'm never looking back and sitting on my heels, I'm always trying to push on.

"Everyone dug in against Salford and that performance provided a glimpse of what we can do.

"We could have put 50 or 60 points on them – and they're a great side when you look at the quality of players they have at their disposal.

"To put 41 points on them shows what a great side we've got ourselves and what a great bunch of lads we've got."

Danny Addy and Jake Mullaney were in devastating form against Salford before the latter player was withdrawn early in the second half due to injury.

Mellor said: "I'd back our halves in Super League, never mind in this middle eights competition, and I think the flair we've got and the options we have are unbelievable.

"It's easy to play when you've got chiefs like that leading you around the park."

Having got through the Salford game unscathed, Mellor should line up against Widnes as Manase Manuokafoa makes his first return to Odsal.

"I was a little bit nervous coming into the game as you would expect, with my fitness and my knee, but it held up well," said Mellor.

"I think momentum is a massive thing and beating Salford has given us huge confidence to do the same to Widnes.

"There's no reason why we can't put 40-odd points on them and we're looking forward to it.

"Nas (Manuokafoa) is a good role model and when I came into first-grade he put his arm around me and helped me out a little bit. He guided me and is a great player, so I've got a lot of respect for him.

"Obviously he wears a Widnes shirt now and we're in Bradford jerseys, so for that 80 minutes on Sunday we will be going at each other.

"We can't underestimate them just because we've done a number on Salford. We can't sit back and relax. We've got to push on and play even better than what we did against Salford.

"I expect a massive test against Widnes but I think we're up to the challenge."

Meanwhile, the Bulls' trip to Hull KR the following weekend has been brought forward 24 hours and will be televised live on Sky.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, September 13 but will now take on the Saturday with a 3pm kick-off.
