IT TOOK two days and a night to complete over a span of nine days but Bradford Gymkhana B eventually gained revenge over Salem Athletic B for their defeat in last season's H Broadbent Trophy final.

Gymkhana elected to bat in the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League knockout showpiece at Bowling Baptists' Manningham Mills ground and got off to a flier.

Mohammed Sarwar (18) and Jasdev Lal Singh (46) shared a stand of 55 in ten overs. Singh then added 22 with Mohammed Saeed, making it 77-1 after 15 overs when the ball was thrown to Yasir Khan by skipper Abid Ur Rehman.

His arrival led to six wickets falling for 15 in 46 balls, making it 92-7 after 22.4 overs.

However, despite the efforts of Khan (4-38) and Umair Zada (3-28), Gymkhana recovered to 166 thanks to Mohammed Naeem (28) and Nazam Hussain (34no).

Rain prevented Salem from starting their reply and they had to wait for 24 hours, getting to 26-1 from nine overs before the weather stopped play again, leading to a resumption a week later on Bank Holiday Monday.

Salem looked in trouble at 59-4 after 22.2 overs but Ur Rehman and Abdul Jabbar proved the ideal combination, adding 78 off just 73 balls before Jabbar was dismissed for 34, making it 138-5 after 35 overs.

Athletic needed 29 off the last 30 balls but Mohammed Sarwar took two wickets in the 36th over, bowling Ur Rehman for 64 and then having Mohammed Hamdaan caught and bowled for one, leaving Salem on a precarious 144-7.

Hussain then dashed their hopes by taking two wickets in the 37th over and Sarwar sealed the victory by bowling Shah Faisal in the 39th, leaving Salem stranded on 155.

Gymkhana won the game by 11 runs, with Hussain the man of the match for his 6-22 and unbeaten knock.
