ADRIAN Purtell says a repeat performance of the Salford demolition would do just nicely against Widnes on Sunday.

The Bulls destroyed the Red Devils at Odsal in their last outing and now face the Vikings this weekend in round four of the Super 8s qualifiers.

Purtell said: "As a team, we knew how well we could play and we were confident in our ability going into the Salford game.

"But we owed it to ourselves, the coaching staff, the board and the fans to perform after what happened against Wakefield the week before.

"We just started well and I thought the forwards were great from the word go.

"They ran hard, gave us plenty of momentum and we had enough quality to take the chances that came our way.

"It was a great improvement and a great stepping stone – but we can't just have that one great win in the middle eights.

"We have to capitalise on it and put in a really good performance against Widnes now. I'm confident we're more than capable of doing that."

Purtell, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, enjoyed another stint at stand-off after Jake Mullaney was withdrawn early in the second half against Salford due to a tight calf.

Mullaney is aiming to be passed fit for this weekend's match and Lee Gaskell should also return – but Purtell is happy to slot into the halves again if required.

"I enjoy playing there and I guess we've got one of the best players in the league in Gasky who plays there," said Purtell.

"If he's unavailable, or if Jake goes off, then I'm more than comfortable filling in that role. It allows me to get involved and control the game a bit more.

"I think by the time I went in to five-eighth against Salford, the game was well in our grasp and I just had to control it from there.

"It was just an enjoyable day. Jimmy (Lowes) came in and said we had 100 per cent completion in the first half.

"Not that completion is the be all and end all because it's more about what we did with the ball.

"Everyone was running with purpose and not making any errors, which put all the pressure on Salford.

"We made them work so hard and they didn't have any energy because the forwards laid such an outstanding platform."

On team-mate Mullaney, Purtell added: "Jake is one of those players who has a natural ability to break tackles.

"It's a big strength of his and you can see how he makes us a better team when he's playing. Fingers crossed he's ready and raring to go this weekend."
