THERE was little joy for Bradford-based teams in the Taylor's Timber West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division, with only Steeton picking up a point from a keenly-contested 0-0 home draw against Ovenden West Riding.

Salts travelled to leaders Huddersfield YMCA but returned home pointless after Daniel Naidole (2) and Danny Stocker gave the hosts a 3-0 success.

Campion were also in Huddersfield and, despite strikes from Gavin Armitage and Danny Brown, suffered a 4-2 setback at Golcar United, while Tyersal slipped to a fourth defeat in their opening five games when they were beaten 7-2 at Kirkburton.

Richard Kettlewell (5), Jordan Tindall and Danny Simpson scored for Kirkburton, while Wayne Wright and Luke Dyson netted consolation goals.

Hunsworth made it five straight setbacks when Lower Hopton returned home with a 7-0 success.

But Halifax Irish, who only won five games last season, have recruited well over the summer and new signings Eli Hey and Antony Brown – who have experience with Brighouse Town – again showed their scoring skills as both netted trebles to give Irish a fourth victory in defeating Littletown 6-1.

After a defeat in their first game, followed by three consecutive draws, Wibsey picked up their first win in Division One when beating visitors Thornes 2-0, both Daniel O'Donnell and Phil Brogan netting from the penalty spot.

West Horton travelled to newcomers Newsome and, after taking five points from their first four games, were brought down to earth as their opponents extended their unbeaten start to four games with a 5-1 victory.

Honley, who were the early leaders, fell to their first defeat as Campion Reserves had Josh Ludford and Ben Cheetham on target in a 2-1 scoreline.

Steeton Reserves visited leaders DRAM Community, with the Huddersfield side triumphing 6-2.

Thornton United, already a successful Sunday side, have started well after starting a Saturday team.

With many familiar faces who have played at West Riding County Amateur League top-flight level and higher, they are already being considered as promotion candidates from Division Two after just three matches.

Victories over Salts Reserves (3-1) and fellow newcomers Route One Rovers (5-2) in midweek were followed by a 7-1 win at Lower Hopton Reserves, with Danny Walker netting four times to supplement further goals from John Selby, Gavin Meakin and Eli Petschak.

TVR United and Route One Rovers, who stepped up from the Spen Valley League, have both had reasonable starts.

United, after drawing their first two games 1-1 against Bradford and Route One Rovers, hit the goal trail by beating Salts Reserves 6-3 thanks to hat-tricks from Mohamed Abdalla and Abid Khan, while Rovers triumphed 5-1 at Bradford.
