THE National League North table does not make good reading for the Bradford Park Avenue supporters at the moment but manager Martin Drury is urging them to stay positive.

They are at home today against North Ferriby United before travelling to Harrogate Town for a derby on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Bradford boss said, “This league is wide open and two wins from these two games puts a totally different complexion on it.

“It’s August not January and we’re only five games into the season. It’s crazy for people to look at the table and think that’s where everyone is going to finish at the end of the season.

“When you look at it, if we win both of the games, taking six points, suddenly we’re half way up the table like Ferriby and in touching distance of the play-offs. I’m not too interested in what the league table looks like at the minute and I would think that anyone who knows the game will feel the same.”

Drury knows the club’s fans are not seeing the best of his team in these early stages of the campaign but his main concern leading up to today was finding an emergency replacement for injured keeper Jon Stewart and also losing Alex Pursehouse and Michael Potts to injuries.

The Avenue manager added, “I’m a big believer in that you get what you deserve in football and we are where we are because we haven’t taken enough points in the first few games.

“We’ve played well in spells but not done enough to dominate games and earn the points that we expect. We haven’t played too badly either and teams haven’t dominated us although there are two games that I’ve not been happy with.

“Fylde beat us and we were definitely second best on the day. But that’s because Fylde are a better team than we are, at this moment in time. They have a great management team who have had three or four years to work with their players.

“Last Saturday at Corby was another, it hurt me and it hurt the players. They’re an honest bunch and they are the first to put their hands up when they have been under par but if anyone is going to turn things around it’s this group of players.

“We let ourselves down and we let our supporters down against Corby and we didn’t like that feeling. Everyone knows that and if anyone says, ‘we were unlucky’ or ‘we deserved this or that’ then they’re kidding themselves.

“Football’s not like that, and you do get what you deserve. I have spoken to a pro club about a loan deal for a keeper but Alex and Michael being out just adds to the team selection problems ,but you have to get on with it.”
