Apart from a strong but mild easterly wind, conditions were quite good for the final match in this season's inaugural Craven Summer League fished on the Long Ing length of the canal at Barnoldswick last Sunday. All the competitors landed fish, which consisted mainly of small roach and skimmers, although the odd bigger fish also turned up. Perch were few and far between and those that were caught were on the small side. Result: 1 Ian Parker 1020g (2:4:0), 2 Bill Davenport (league organiser) 940g (2:1:0), 3 Simon Chenior 920g (2:0:4), 4 Andy Wharton 710g (1:9:0), 5 Andrew Thomas 650g (1:7:0), 6, Kenny Wright 520g (1:2:4). Knotford Lagoon and Sandwath Lake are now open. No keep-nets are to be used and dip tanks are in place and must be used for all landing nets, weighing scales and unhooking mats.

Result of last Sunday's Lower Aire Championships at Beal and Chapel Haddlesey (fished by 81): 1 Paul Clarke 18lb 12oz (bream), 2 holder Martin Highe 16lb (including 8lb bream), 3 S Raper 15lb 3oz, 4 J Cyrowski 11lb 14oz, 5th C Hardy 11lb 10oz. Howsham Wood on the River Derwent is fishing very well for chub, barbel and dace. Raskelf is continuing to produce nets over 100lb of F1 carp and skimmers.

WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY

Catch details for week ending August 23 – Day ticket, Fewston 28, Swinsty 7; total fish caught, Fewston 77, Swinsty 101lb; average per rod, Fewston 2.75, Swinsty 14.5lb. Heaviest fish caught was a 4lb 4oz blue trout by Matt George using Black Fritz. Fewston: Rainbow and blue trout feeding close to the banks early morning, then back deep as the heat kicks in. Swinsty: Perch love warm weather and have been the main sport, taking worm under a float. Thruscross: Brown trout feeding early morning, taking heather fly blown across the water.

CLAYTON AC

Tomorrow's match is at Viking Deer Lake, draw 8.45am, fishing 10am-4pm, no floating baits, no cat meat, no tins allowed on bank. Match on Saturday, October 5 is the Con Club annual bash at Tollerton (Heron), draw 8.30am, fishing 9.30am-3.30pm. Presentation in Con Club from 7.30pm all welcome. Own keep-nets required for both venues.

LISTERHILLS AA

Draw for Sunday's annual canal open championship is at 10am in the canalside car park at Armley. Result of the last Leeds Angling Centre canal match: 1 J Mason 5lb 15oz (including a tench), 2 R Thorne 4lb 1oz, 3 R Moveley 3lb. The next members' match is at Pilley's on Sunday, September 6. This fishery continues to fish well for quality fish.

BIERLEY AC

Fortnightly Sunday matches are back, the first of which was well attended and fished in excellent conditions last weekend. Result: 1 P Briggs 10lb 1oz, 2 R Lyle 9lb 6oz, 3 M Platt 8lb 2oz. Result of the last Wednesday evening match of the year: 1 A Walton (10lb 8oz, 2= P Briggs, T Parkin 7lb.
