JAMES Davison (Eccleshill) was beaten 21-16 in the final of the Pudsey Classic by Conor Chamberlain (Stretton Anglesey).

The 19-year-old was the stand-out bowler on finals night, coming through a quality field to take the £1,500 first prize.

Having edged through his final qualifying game 21-20 against Andy Webb (Ossett Flying Horse) the week before, no-one came close to beating him on finals night.

In his last-16 match, Chamberlain defeated Andy Spragg (Thongsbridge) 21-9 before an outstanding 21-4 win over Robert Hitchen (Lower Hopton).

Next up was a semi-final against Chris Brown (Lower Hopton).

Chamberlain was quickly into his stride leading 9-2, Brown levelling at 9-9 only for Chamberlain to move into overdrive and go ahead 19-13 before triumphing.

In the final, Chamberlain again made the better start, leading 6-4 and 12-7 before Davison made it 16-16.

The Stretton Anglesey member then showed his composure when many would have buckled as he finished with a 1-2-2 combination to become champion and qualify for next month's Champion of Champions.
