CLAYTON Liberal Club had a very successful season, picking up a host of trophies in the South Bradford Games League, and largely dominating the snooker silverware.

Their snooker team won the league title and the team knockout, with Mark Slater and Stuart Harker adding the snooker pairs trophy.

Slater himself had a particularly fine campaign, making the final of the Bradford Snooker Championship, being edged out by nine-time champion Wayne Cooper, and was also part of the Bradford No 1 side that won their third consecutive Yorkshire Inter-District League title.

Other awards for the South Bradford League were – Snooker League runners-up, Wibsey Libs; Billiards League winners, Clayton Rugby A; runners-up, Great Horton Cons B; Snooker Pairs runners-up, G Binns & A Oldroyd (Chapel Green Libs); Snooker individual winner, N Hale (Clayton Rugby); runner-up, A Jeffrey (Gt Horton Cricket); Billiards individual (70+ handicap) winner, A. McGann (Gt Horton Cons); runner-up, P Smith (Clayton Rugby); Billiards individual (65 & under handicap) winner, D Hale (Clayton Rugby); runner-up, A Kitson (Clayton Cons); snooker team knockout runner-up: Lilycroft B; Billiards team knockout winners: Clayton Rugby A; runners-up, Great Horton Cricket; Snooker League high break, 82 Josh Walker (Lilycroft B); Billiards League high break, 77 Steve Wilman (Great Horton Cons B).

Clayton Rugby Club have now won the Billiards League title five times in six years, with a runners-up spot on the other occasion.

This has been Paul Ascough's first season running the South Bradford League, and the general opinion from around the clubs is that he has done an exceptional job and ensured continuity throughout all competitions.
