RECORD-breakers Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan have put Yorkshire in a position of great strength during the second day of their LV= County Championship match against Durham at Emirates Durham.

The White Rose county declared their first innings on 557-6 to allow themselves ten overs of bowling before tea, which the hosts have reached at 41-2.

Bairstow and Bresnan shared a five-hour partnership of 366 inside 81 overs for the seventh wicket, which was the third highest of all time for that wicket and the highest ever in county cricket.

Bairstow faced 268 balls for his career-best 219 not out and Bresnan 256 for his best of 169 not out.

Adil Rashid had Keaton Jennings caught at slip by Bresnan with his second ball in the ninth over of Durham’s reply before Steve Patterson forced Mark Stoneman to chop on.
