CLAYTON'S Paul Gill and Paul Kaye won the BRADFORD PAIRS MERIT, sponsored by Martin S Lonsdale (Estate Agents) but only after defeating Jon Edmondson and Gary Wike (Pudsey) 21-20 in the final.

The competition moved to Cleckheaton Sports this year, with a total of 40 pairs looking to become champions, but Gill and Kaye took the title for a second time, following their 2008 success.

They were never really troubled until the final, which could have gone either way.

Edmondson was looking to win the title for a fourth time with a fourth different partner.

Tony Riley (Brighouse Sports) and Tom Hanson (Pudsey) were week three qualifiers in the 2015 SHIPLEY CLASSIC, sponsored by H H Birch & Son Ltd.

Riley had the easier path to finals night with wins over Ian Shuttleworth (Sandal) 21-14, Paul Hillam (Eccleshill) 21-20 and Ian Bernard (Silsden) 21-6, while Hanson had three tough games, beating Callum Wraight (Shropshire) 21-18, Steven Gilroy (Crossgates) 21-19, after trailing 18-11, and Danny Sillitoe (Dearne Sports) 21-10.

The final week of qualifying takes place tomorrow evening, with reigning champion Mark Hughes (Crossgates) in action.

The finals take place on Friday, June 12.
