ECCLESHILL United's head coach Gerard Jones is never short of words in his post-match interviews, and he has proved that he can commit his thoughts to the page by bringing out a book.

The highly-qualified Jones works for Mark Ellis’ Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy (RIASA) as a coach and is also employed at Bradford City’s Sky Bet League One rivals Rochdale, working with their Academy.

Jones said: “The book centres around coaching communication and how to improve methods and get your message across.

“It was taken up by one of the biggest publishers of coaching manuals in the country and it came out a week last Monday, and by the following Friday it was out of stock on Amazon, so that’s a good sign.

“It was getting a lot of activity on Twitter because coaches and Academies all over were talking about the book, and I think it is a fresh way of looking at the way coaches communicate, and sometimes what is lost by not doing it properly and how that can be translated on the pitch as well.”

The book – Let's Talk Soccer: Using Game-calls to Develop Communication and Decision-Making in Football – has been brought out by leading publishers Bennion Kearny.

Jones says: “Let's Talk Soccer helps coaches to become better communicators and encourages their players to communicate more on the pitch in line with their team's playing philosophy, by using key words (game-calls) to facilitate decision making.”
