TIM Bresnan is hoping the winter remedial work on his approach to the bowling crease can prolong his career.

The Yorkshire all-rounder has made an impressive start to 2015 with 14 wickets from three LV= County Championship matches.

Bresnan has taken the new ball instead of the injured Ryan Sidebottom since halfway through the opening-round win against Worcestershire last month.

And earlier this week, the 30-year-old was recalled to England's senior squad for the first time since last March for their one-day clash with Ireland next Friday.

Bresnan has suffered numerous injuries throughout his career, including a pectoral muscle strain which ruled him out of two of the last three Championship matches last season.

During the winter, however, he has worked with Yorkshire's first-team coach Jason Gillespie on straightening his run-up in order to minimise the strain on his body and to help gain more swing.

"I've been working on the straight line that I'm in now and it's pretty good," he said, having taken his first five-wicket haul since May 2012 – against Warwickshire earlier this week.

"There's no jumping out in my run-up, and it takes a lot of pressure off the back, off the shoulder, the elbow and the pec – all the areas where I have been struggling in previous years.

"Me and 'Diz' just sat down and I've realised that I can't get away with forcing it down now I'm getting a bit older, having had the injuries I've had.

"It's something that can take the pressure off from an action point of view. It's beneficial for my longevity.

"If you look at most of my international stuff, it's run in, jump out and use the shoulder and strength to get it down rather than having a nice rhythm and getting a bit more side on and those sorts of things.

"It's kind of going back to where I was when I was younger – 19 or 20 – with my position at the crease."
