FIT-AGAIN Dale Ferguson has admitted the Bulls must improve massively against Sheffield this weekend and declared: “I need to be better myself.”

The former Huddersfield back-rower scored an impressive brace of tries in Sunday’s 56-38 win at rock-bottom Doncaster.

But he felt his overall performance was below par as the Bulls shipped seven tries against the division’s basement team.

Now Ferguson is looking forward to putting things right for the visit of the Eagles, who battered Halifax 36-10 immediately after the Bulls’ game at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday.

Ferguson said: “I’m just happy to be playing week in and week out, and if I can get a couple of tries then it’s even better.

“Personally I wasn’t really happy with my performance and I’ll fix it up in training this week and kick on for the Sheffield game.

“The defence, and I’d say this from a personal point of view as well, could have been better.

“We were lackadaisical in defence compared to what we’d normally be like, nice and aggressive, and Doncaster got on the front foot and played the ball quick.

“We struggled in those areas but we’ll fix it up in training this week ahead of the Sheffield game because that will be a tough test.”

Head coach Jimmy Lowes said the team were suffering from fatigue against Doncaster following the draining Challenge Cup defeat against Hull KR seven days earlier.

Ferguson added: “Yes, I think a few of the boys felt a bit flat after a big effort last week against Hull KR.

“But we ground out a win and that’s the most important thing.

“If we keep grinding out wins then we will get into the Super Eights at the end of the year.

“It’s probably the trend with Bradford Bulls at the minute whereby the lower-league teams are picking themselves up when they play against us because we are a Super League team.

“That’s making it tough for us but if we are grinding out the wins then we’ve got to be happy with that.”

After a nightmare debut season at Odsal which was wrecked by injury, Ferguson is gradually re-establishing himself as a vital member of the Bulls side.

He added: “Touch wood, I came through unscathed again.

“Jimmy has been class and the physios have really looked after me in training.”

Boss Lowes said: “It’s just good to see Dale back and playing free of injuries.

“He’s a good player and he just needed that run of games. That’s what he’s getting now.”
