LISTERHILLS AA

The first of the Saturday series of open canal matches was fished at Rodley. Fish proved difficult to tempt, roach making up most of the catches. All competitors caught but a few did not weigh in.

Result: 1 E Harrison (Leeds Angling Centre) 1lb 11oz, 2 D Moffatt (Idle & Thackley) 1lb 7oz. Section winners: G Kitchen (Pudsey Anglers) 1lb 3¾oz, W Barker (Heckmondwike) 1lb 2oz. The next series match is on May 9. The next members’ match is at Pilley’s on Sunday, May 3.

The quality of fishing has varied considerably on account of fluctuating weather. Ten days ago, carp were responding well, along with quality tench and bream, but over the last few days few have been caught. One veteran member had a good catch of roach and rudd, which was witnessed. The successful bait was hemp seed.

Anglers with mobility scooters are allowed to take them on the bank, but no other vehicles are allowed.

Tackle and expertise will be provided, and it is hoped that specimen brown trout, roach, perch, bream, ide and carp will be caught.
