WELTERWEIGHT Darren Tetley has expressed his surprise at suggestions of a Bradford face-off for the central area title.

Tetley took his perfect pro record to six straight wins on the same Leeds show that saw Hamed Ghaz record his first stoppage win.

But the 21-year-old, from Holme Wood, was bemused by talk afterwards of a match with the teenager for the belt.

Tetley said: “I’ve heard nothing about it and the central area title is not even vacant.

“I showed in my last fight that I’m prepared to step up and take a gamble – and it paid off. But I’m not going to call fighters out and I never will.

“I know Hamed stopped his opponent in the first round and he seems a decent enough lad with a good amateur background. We’re both from Bradford, so I can see why it’s been mentioned.

“I would like an area shot at some point but it’s got to be available first. I leave it to my manager, if a fight makes sense I’ll take it.”

Tetley claimed a points victory at Elland Road over Czech fighter Tomas Bartunek, a former international amateur and kick-boxer.

“It was a 50-50 fight,” he said. “He’d had 30-40 bouts as an amateur and another 30 kick-boxing.

“I thought he was going to target me but then he decided to box, which threw me off a bit because that wasn’t what I was expecting.

“But in my eyes I won the first three rounds and possibly lost the last – and that’s how the ref saw it.”
