DISCOVERING HANGOVER CURES @ GAZELLE ON ARGYLE STREET

WHAT with the bright lights of Sauchiehall Street, the Merchant City and Byres Road winning all the plaudits in the Glasgow guidebooks, it's easy to forget there's plenty going on in places such as Finnieston.

It was to that corner of town that Night Moves decamped this week in search of an evening's merriment - and we certainly found lively hospitality on Argyle Street's Gazelle, a venue that combines aspects of the traditional boozer with the feel of a modern bar.

Opened some three and a half years ago, Gazelle has earned a reputation amongst pub-goers for its good food and savvy DJs and, indeed, it caters to foodies, drinkers and pre-club wayfarers in equal measure.

The bar's high-class pub grub, which includes everything from panini to traditional Scottish dishes, earned a four-star Evening Times review in 2004 and still pulls in the diners looking for good value.

Later in the week, evenings are more music-orientated and Gazelle boasts some of the coolest DJs in town on its roster including Matt of Kinky Afro fame, the effervescent Tiff Peaches and many of Electromagnetic's top names, making it the ideal haunt for students, young professionals and anyone else in-the-know.

Add to that a truly laid-back atmosphere, personalised service and some gorgeous interiors, courtesy in part of Tim'rous Beasties, and you've got the local everyone wishes they had on their doorstep.
